Netflix is revisiting the JonBenét Ramsey case with a new limited series, "The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey." This upcoming drama stars Oscar-nominated actors Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as Patsy and John Bennett Ramsey, focusing on the unsolved murder of their six-year-old daughter, a prominent beauty pageant contestant.
The series dives into the events of December 26, 1996, when JonBenét was found dead in her Boulder, Colorado home. Police discovered a ransom note, followed by the girl's body in the basement, which an autopsy later ruled a homicide by strangulation and trauma.
Initially, JonBenét's parents and older brother were considered prime suspects. Despite a grand jury indictment for child abuse in 1998, prosecutors did not pursue the case due to insufficient evidence. In 2008, then-District Attorney Mary Lacy officially exonerated John and Patsy Ramsey, citing newly available DNA evidence.
"The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey" is produced by 101 Studios and helmed by showrunner Richard LaGravenese. The series premieres on December 10, following Netflix's earlier exploration of the mystery with the 2024 documentary "Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey."
