Jon Korkes, Catch-22 Star, Dies at 80

Jon Korkes, a seasoned character actor and influential acting teacher, has passed away at 80. Korkes, who contributed to both stage and screen productions, including Alan Arkin's "Little Murders" and Mike Nichols' "Catch-22," died recently. His death was confirmed by the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York, where he dedicated himself to teaching from 2008 up until November. The school lauded his ability to connect with students, stating he "brought decades of experience across film, television and theater into the classroom."

Korkes' career spanned significant roles in the late 20th century. He first worked with Arkin off-Broadway in "Little Murders" in 1968, later reprising his role in the 1971 film adaptation. His performance as the doomed turret gunner Snowden in "Catch-22" remains a memorable, albeit brief, appearance. He also appeared in other notable films of the era, including "The Day of the Dolphin" and "The Front Page."

Beyond film, Korkes had a notable television presence, with appearances on "All in the Family" and a recurring role as corrections officer Tom Robinson on "Oz." He also shared his expertise internationally by teaching a master class in Rio de Janeiro. Korkes, born December 4, 1945, in Marblehead, Massachusetts, made his screen debut in "The Out-of-Towners" in 1970.
