Comedy Company Joke Zero Branches Into Distribution
17 Feb
Summary
- Joke Zero expands into all rights distribution.
- Tribeca prize-winning comedy 'On a String' is the first acquisition.
- The distribution strategy is supported by MAT Capital.

Joke Zero, the comedy-focused production company led by filmmaker Brandon Tamburri, has officially launched its own distribution arm. The company's inaugural acquisition is 'On a String,' a comedy feature directed by and starring Isabel Hagen, which previously won Best Screenplay at Tribeca 2025. This expansion into distribution marks a significant step for Joke Zero, with plans to acquire and release multiple high-concept, star-driven films and festival titles.
The distribution venture is bolstered by a partnership with private equity firm MAT Capital. Joke Zero aims to provide a dedicated platform for comedy, addressing a gap in the market for a singular destination for such content. 'On a String' is slated for a limited theatrical release in New York City later this year, followed by expansion into other major markets.
In addition to distribution, Joke Zero will continue its production activities. The company has the documentary 'Cancer Free' in post-production and another film scheduled to commence shooting soon. Joke Zero's founder, Tamburri, previously worked at PalmStar Media, gaining extensive experience in film production and development before establishing his own company to focus on comedy films and retain ownership.
