Latin American queer cinema is gaining momentum, leading Sanfic Industria to launch the Queer Incubator in partnership with the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG). This joint initiative aims to foster LGBTQ+ storytelling by providing mentorship and development opportunities across two key industry hubs.
The first stage of the Incubator will take place in Santiago, Chile, from November 2-6, 2026, as part of Sanfic Industria. This will be followed by a second stage in Guadalajara, Mexico, from March 6-13, 2027, culminating in an award during FICG and its Premios Maguey LGBTQ+ sidebar.
Selected projects, limited to six Latin American fiction scripts, must be led by LGBTQ+ directors, screenwriters, or professionals whose identities inform their creative work. The program emphasizes creating a safe space for developing queer narratives and connecting filmmakers with partners, markets, festivals, and audiences globally.
This collaboration signifies a commitment to defending vulnerable communities and ensuring the continued existence and visibility of queer films. Both organizations highlight the need for diverse cinematic representation and expanded networks for LGBTQ+ creators within the industry.
