Depp Shares Intimate Glimpse into Friendship with Director Tim Burton

In a forthcoming docuseries on the life and career of acclaimed director Tim Burton, actor Johnny Depp offers a unique and revealing glimpse into his long-standing friendship with the filmmaker. According to the series' director, Tara Wood, Depp sat down for extensive interviews spanning four hours over two days in France, providing an unprecedented level of access and candor.

"I wish everybody could meet Johnny Depp, because that's another one -- you can't explain Johnny Depp to anybody," Wood says. "He was very open. I think Tim Burton is his favorite topic, so he was very willing to [chat]." Depp's insights are a central part of the four-part docuseries "Life in the Line," which delves into nearly every facet of Burton's life and work.

Throughout the series, Wood notes a common thread that connects Burton's most iconic characters - the "misunderstood monster" that can be seen in films like Dumbo, Sweeney Todd, and Depp's own Sleepy Hollow character, Ichabod Crane. "That's Tim. That's Johnny. That's Winona. I think that's what everybody would come back to, is the misunderstood monster. That's his career," she explains.

Depp, who has collaborated extensively with Burton over the years, shares details about their first meeting before they made the classic Edward Scissorhands, as well as Burton's unwavering support during difficult personal moments for Depp's family. "He shared a lot," says Wood, noting that the bonus material could have warranted its own documentary on the two artists' friendship.
