John Stamos delivered an emotional speech at The Creative Coalition's 12th Annual TV Humanitarian Awards on Thursday, tearing up as he spoke about fatherhood. For almost four decades, Stamos has been an advocate for the child abuse treatment and prevention organization Childhelp. However, becoming a father eight years ago to his son Billy profoundly shifted his perspective.
"Becoming a father has changed the way that I see children," Stamos shared, his voice catching. He emphasized that realizing a child's dependence on adults for safety and love makes it difficult to ignore the plight of children without that security. His best friend, Jeffrey Ross, presented him with the award, acknowledging Stamos's desire to use his platform for children.
Stamos also revealed details about "Love From Above," a children's book he co-authored with Billy, scheduled for release on April 20, 2027. The book, featuring Stamos's watercolor illustrations, explores themes of loss and familial presence, inspired by a family anecdote about hummingbirds. Stamos expressed excitement about sharing the book with children, particularly those who may have lost grandparents.
The event also honored Simran Baidwan, Famke Janssen, Cara Buono, Lisa Ann Walter, and Mary Lou Belli for their humanitarian contributions. Baidwan's work on "The Pitt" highlighted family caregiving, while Walter was recognized for her lifelong advocacy for gender equity. Belli expressed deep gratitude for her decades of service and mentorship being acknowledged.
