Rock icon John Mellencamp is set to launch a 19-date "Dancing Words Tour - The Greatest Hits" this summer across U.S. amphitheaters. This tour marks an extensive performance of his most popular songs, a departure from his usual approach of mixing hits with new material.
The tour's announcement was accompanied by a short film starring Sean Penn, where the actor playfully urges Mellencamp to embrace his legacy and play his well-known songs. Mellencamp, who has had 22 songs in Billboard's Top 40, will feature tracks he hasn't performed live in years, some not since the late 1990s.
Mellencamp explained his decision as a temporary step outside his typical performance style, aiming to make audiences happy. He emphasized that he doesn't perform for money, but rather for the joy of connecting with fans through music. The tour is currently limited to 19 dates, with no plans for expansion or international shows.
