In a new detective drama series set to launch on the Paramount Skydance-owned UK network Channel 5, BAFTA nominee John Hannah will lead the cast of 'Death in Benidorm'. The show, which is currently a working title, follows Dennis, a former detective trying to escape his past who moves to Spain to run a bar in the resort town of Benidorm.
However, Dennis' quiet new life is disrupted when tourists start turning up dead. Egged on by his barmaid Rosa, a crime drama superfan, the ex-cop is reluctantly drawn back into detective work, using his real-world experience and Rosa's encyclopedic TV knowledge to tackle a new murder in paradise each episode.
The series, which was commissioned by Channel 5 and is co-produced by Blackbox Multimedia and Clapperboard, is set to air in 2026. With its premise of a former UK cop solving crimes in the Spanish coastal town, 'Death in Benidorm' sounds like it could be a charming addition to the 'cozy crime' genre.
