25 Jul
Summary
- John Cusack finds artistic freedom in writing fiction.
- His graphic novel 'Momo' offers unedited creative control.
- He would star in a film adaptation of 'Momo'.

Actor John Cusack is exploring a new creative avenue through writing fiction, finding particular appeal in graphic novels for their artistic autonomy. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, 2026, Cusack highlighted his upcoming graphic novel, "Momo," illustrated by Ignacio Noé and published by Mad Cave Studios. He described the project as a "wild, genre-bending road trip with cosmic stakes," blending sci-fi and political satire.
Cusack expressed a preference for the unedited nature of writing fiction compared to filmmaking. He noted that the film industry often involves extensive negotiation and external opinions, which he wanted to avoid. "This was just like, I wrote it, and I said, 'I like the story,' and then I got this beautiful, wonderful artist... and so nobody edited anything I wrote or that he drew," he explained.
He further described "Momo" as an "anti-algorithm thing," free from committee input or poll testing. Cusack also indicated his willingness to star in a film adaptation of "Momo" should it be greenlit. This endeavor marks his graphic novel debut, following his 2016 co-authored essay collection. "Momo" is slated for release on September 29, 2026.
