Apple TV has announced an October 9, 2026 premiere for the upcoming "Matchbox" movie, starring John Cena. Three new images offer a glimpse into the action-packed film, one featuring Cena in a chase and another showing vehicles on a highway. The movie is inspired by the well-known Mattel toy brand.
The "Matchbox" film promises a globetrotting adventure centered on lifelong friends whose lives are disrupted when undercover CIA agent Sean, played by Cena, returns. He unexpectedly involves them in a high-stakes pursuit to protect the world. This project follows Mattel's highly successful "Barbie" movie.
Arturo Castro, Jessica Biel, Teyonah Parris, and Sam Richardson are among the ensemble cast. Directed by Sam Hargrave, the film is written by David Coggeshall and produced by Skydance Media and Mattel Films. The Matchbox brand itself dates back to 1953, originally created by Lesney Products before its acquisition by Mattel.
