Legendary filmmaker John Carpenter, along with Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, is set to release a new single titled "The Ferryman" on Tuesday. This song is the second preview from their forthcoming project, Cathedral. The first track from Cathedral, "Lord of the Underground," has already been released.
Cathedral is comprised of a graphic novel, due out on August 4, and a corresponding soundtrack album, scheduled for release on August 7. Each track on the soundtrack is designed to align with a specific chapter of the graphic novel. "The Ferryman" specifically introduces a subterranean character central to the narrative.
John Carpenter revealed that the story behind "The Ferryman" was inspired by a vivid dream he experienced in 2024. He described the dream as highly cinematic, compelling him to create music for it. Carpenter characterized the project as their "first heavy metal album," signaling a departure from his previous work in film scoring and original music albums.
