John Candy's family rejects biopic idea

John Candy's children, Chris Candy and Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, have expressed that a scripted biopic about their father is not something they are pursuing. While flattered by past pitches for such a project, Candy-Sullivan stated that biopics are "not my cup of tea." Her brother, Chris, humorously suggested there are "cooler people you could do biopic on," with director Colin Hanks quipping in response.

Producer Ryan Reynolds and editor Shane Reid also weighed in, with Reynolds calling a John Candy biopic an "immediate no" and Reid describing the task as "nearly impossible" due to Candy's unique persona. The collaborators discussed the potential lost opportunities from Candy's tragically early death in 1994 at age 43, imagining his career could have evolved into dramatic roles and modern improv comedy films.

Reynolds offered a "controversial take," suggesting Candy might have intentionally slowed his career pace in his 40s, a common realization in the entertainment industry. He reflected on the intense gratitude and luck involved in such a career, implying a desire for balance.
