Joanna Lumley embraces future at 80

Joanna Lumley, celebrating her 80th birthday, expresses that age is merely a number and she prefers to focus on the future. The beloved British actress, widely recognized for her role as Patsy in Absolutely Fabulous, has no intentions of retiring and remains grateful for her continued busy career.

Lumley admits feeling both 'delighted and overwhelmed' by the icon status many fans bestow upon her. Reflecting on her early life, born in Kashmir in 1946 to a Ghurka officer, her childhood was spent in Hong Kong and Malaysia before returning to England at age eight.

Beginning her career as a photographic model, Lumley's acting journey led to acclaimed roles including Purdey in The New Avengers and a Bond girl. She also noted the unique phenomenon of fans, particularly men, dressing up as her iconic character Patsy Stone.

When discussing beauty and aging, Lumley advocates for personal choice regarding cosmetic surgery. She also credits her four-decade vegetarian diet and avoidance of processed foods for helping to 'hold back the ageing process.'

Beyond acting, Lumley is a dedicated human rights activist, notably for the Gurkha Justice Campaign. Her engaging travel documentaries have taken her to diverse global locations, though she remains mindful of the environmental impact of travel.

Lumley's personal life includes her marriage to conductor Stephen Barlow since 1986. She shared that their enduring connection stems from a mutual fascination with each other's worlds and a disinclination to be apart.

Regarding her iconic character Patsy, Lumley clarified that the persona does not translate into her home life. She expressed enthusiasm for a potential return to the Absolutely Fabulous universe should scripts become available.
