- J.K. Rowling shares parody video of Emma Watson's podcast interview
- Watson says she's open to talking to Rowling again despite their rift
- Rift started in 2020 over Rowling's comments on the transgender community
In a recent development, J.K. Rowling has weighed in on Emma Watson's viral interview on the "On Purpose With Jay Shetty" podcast by sharing a parody video of the "Harry Potter" actor's appearance. The video, created by comedian IntelLady, spoofed Watson's interview, in which she said she would be open to talking to Rowling again amid their continued rift over the author's comments on the transgender community.
Rowling praised the parody video, adding in her caption: "I'm here for all the spoofs." This comes as Watson, who has largely been out of the Hollywood spotlight for the last seven years, spoke about her rift with Rowling for the first time publicly during the podcast interview.
The rift between Rowling and Watson started in 2020 after the "Harry Potter" author began sharing views on the transgender community that many found to be transphobic. Watson, along with her co-stars like Daniel Radcliffe, publicly opposed Rowling at the time, stating that "trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren't who they say they are."
In response, Rowling later went on record saying she would "never forgive" Watson or her co-stars after they "cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women's hard-won rights." However, during the recent podcast episode, Watson expressed her openness to reconciling with Rowling, saying, "I will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don't get to keep and cherish."
