Kimmel Stays: Late-Night Host Extends ABC Deal

Jimmy Kimmel will continue to host "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" for at least another year, having signed a one-year extension with ABC. His contract, initially set to conclude in May 2026, will now extend through May 2027. This development comes after a challenging period for Kimmel, including a temporary removal from air and the recent loss of his bandleader. Despite past vacillations regarding his commitments, this extension is widely anticipated to be his last.

Kimmel recently commented on the future of late-night television, expressing his belief that the genre still has relevance. However, he pointed to the substantial production costs, estimated at $120 million annually, as a significant hurdle. He argued that the original purpose of these shows was to leverage high-profile talent affordably, deeming the current expenditure as excessive.

During a recent industry event, Kimmel alluded to his indecisiveness about contract renewals, humorously noting that he often does the opposite of what he publicly states. This has led him to refrain from definitive statements about his future plans to avoid upsetting his staff.
