Jimmi Simpson Slows Down, Embraces Authenticity

Jimmi Simpson, a veteran actor with a career spanning nearly 30 years, is shifting his professional focus towards authenticity and a more relaxed pace. Having accumulated over 80 film and television credits, Simpson, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, is consciously choosing to "slow the hustle down." He expressed a diminished desire to prove himself, instead prioritizing his authentic self, which he believes doesn't require external validation.

Simpson is now more selective about his roles, actively seeking projects that present a unique challenge. He finds less appeal in roles he's confident he can perform easily, preferring those that prompt him to question his approach. This new philosophy is evident in his recent work, including his role as Dillard in 'The Walking Dead: Dead City,' which reunited him with Jeffrey Dean Morgan after more than two decades. Their reunion on set was described as a "wild homecoming" and an instant camaraderie.

Further demonstrating his selective approach, Simpson is reprising his character Liam McPoyle in the 18th season of 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.' He is also set to return for the second season of Apple TV+'s 'Dark Matter.' Simpson, who originally pursued English teaching and minored in business, found his way into acting after a notable encounter at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. He embraces his "everyman" persona, attributing his career longevity to a lack of expectation and a steadfast commitment to enjoying the craft.
