The State Handloom and Saras Mela 2026 commenced on Monday at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi, presenting a vibrant display of Indian artistry and culinary traditions. Approximately 650 stalls are participating, offering a wide array of handloom products, intricate handicrafts, and authentic rural foods. These creations are brought forth by skilled artisans, weavers, and self-help groups hailing from Jharkhand and various other Indian states.
This significant exhibition, a joint initiative by the ministry of textiles and the state rural development department, is scheduled to continue until March 20, 2026. It prominently features around 60 stalls dedicated to textiles from across India. The Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) has also established nearly 100 stalls, predominantly managed by women entrepreneurs from self-help groups, highlighting their contributions to the economy.
The fair was officially inaugurated by Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development Minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav and Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh. The opening ceremony was enhanced by lively traditional dance performances, setting a festive tone. Minister Yadav emphasized that such events are crucial for bolstering the economic well-being of those in the handloom and handicraft sectors, aiming to secure better market opportunities for Jharkhand's weavers.
Visitors can explore an extensive selection of items, including handloom sarees, designer kurtis, khadi shirts, shawls, leather goods, bamboo crafts, and decorative home items. The mela also offers interactive experiences with live demonstrations of pottery making, bamboo crafting, and silk production. Beyond crafts, the fair boasts a food court serving local Jharkhandi cuisine and an amusement zone for children, with organizers anticipating a large turnout.
