A new FX series, "Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette," has brought actress Daryl Hannah back into the public eye. The show's portrayal of Hannah, who had a long-term relationship with John F. Kennedy Jr. before his marriage to Carolyn Bessette, has sparked debate. Some viewers and critics feel the series depicts Hannah negatively.
Producers of the series stated they did not interview Hannah, using Elizabeth Beller's 2024 book "Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy" as their source. This approach aimed to portray characters from the inside out without serving external agendas. The series highlights Hannah's efforts to mend her relationship with Kennedy as he grew closer to Bessette.
The show also suggests that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis did not approve of her son dating Hannah. However, Hannah's stepmother had previously denied such rumors. The series explores the public's fascination with Kennedy and Hannah's on-again, off-again relationship, which concluded in 1994.
Kennedy married Carolyn Bessette in 1996. Tragically, they, along with Bessette's sister Lauren, died in a plane crash in 1999. Daryl Hannah later married singer Neil Young in 2018.
