- Lange returned for season 13 after initially refusing.

Jessica Lange has unveiled her personal ranking of her four significant American Horror Story characters. Taking the number one position is Elsa Mars from 'Freak Show,' a role Lange cherished for the immersive world the show created and the unique opportunity it gave her to sing. She expressed particular fondness for the creative environment on set, describing it as 'a long poem.'
Following Elsa Mars, Lange placed her first character, Constance Langdon from 'Murder House,' and Sister Jude Martin from 'Asylum,' in a tie for second place. At the bottom of her list is Fiona Goode, the former Supreme from 'Coven.' Lange admitted that the 'witch thing' was less engaging for her, though she did appreciate certain scenes with Fiona.
Fans may be surprised to learn that Lange had previously declared she had no intention of returning to American Horror Story after her initial run. However, a conversation with creator Ryan Murphy, who initially pitched her return as Constance, ultimately convinced her. Lange agreed to come back for season 13, but only if she could portray all four of her distinct characters.
