11 Aug
Summary
- Actor texted the wrong person for years thinking it was Vanessa Williams.
- The mix-up was discovered when Williams left a group text.
- Ferguson was mortified upon realizing his mistake.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson recently shared an amusing anecdote on his podcast, Dinner's on Me, about a prolonged texting miscommunication with Vanessa Williams.
Ferguson admitted that for approximately five years, he had been sending texts to an incorrect number, under the mistaken belief it belonged to Williams. The pair had initially exchanged contact details in 2017. Ferguson would send "little things" like photos of his children or screenshots, but never received any responses.
The confusion was only unraveled in 2022 when Williams was starring on Broadway in 'POTUS'. Ferguson sent a group text to the cast, referencing a line from the play. It was then that 'Vanessa Williams has left the conversation' appeared, exposing the error.
Mortified, Ferguson privately texted the number to apologize, only to receive a response stating, "This is not Vanessa Williams! Please stop texting me." The owner of the number eventually showed the exchange to Williams, who found it highly amusing and asked Ferguson to be given her correct number.
