Jesse Metcalfe, known for his role as gardener John Rowland on Desperate Housewives, has reflected on his exit from the popular noughties series. Metcalfe was initially hired as a series regular for the first season of the show, which ran from 2004 to 2012.
However, his role was later changed to a recurring one. Metcalfe theorizes this decision was made by show creator Marc Cherry to prevent limiting Eva Longoria's character, Gabrielle Solis, to solely being involved in an affair storyline. Cherry apparently stated it was "Desperate Housewives," not "Desperate House Gardeners."
Metcalfe continued to make appearances throughout the show's nine seasons. He also revealed the launch of his skincare line, NUTRL Skin, in April 2025. The gender-neutral line is described as hydrating and anti-aging, with peptide complexes to promote collagen production.
Recently, Metcalfe attended a Clarins event with his girlfriend of two and a half years, Helene Immel. He spoke positively about their relationship, noting he has been fortunate in love.
