In 2025, longtime friends and New Jersey natives MoRuf and SZA have reunited to release a nostalgic new single, "PT Cruiser." The soothing R&B track reflects on their shared adolescent memories, with the music video mirroring the reflective mood.
MoRuf, born Moruf Adedayo Adewunmi, and SZA, whose real name is Solana Rowe, grew up in neighboring towns in New Jersey. As SZA recalls in an Instagram post, their relationship was formative, with the two often freestyling together in her mother's driveway. "Without our car freestyles in my mom's driveway there'd be no me!" she wrote.
The new collaboration, produced by Jesse Boykins III, Nate Bajar, MeLo-X, and Matt Cody, captures the essence of those youthful memories. The soft, communal video features both shots of the artists as adults, as well as vignettes of young children with their style. "Cooler, wish I never knew ya/We were in the backseat of your momma PT Cruiser," MoRuf sings on the hook, while SZA spits a few bars about finding her way.
The release of "PT Cruiser" celebrates the enduring bond between the two Jersey natives, who have remained close over the years. As MoRuf wrote in his Instagram post, "This bigger than us. This for Jersey!!!"
