Jerry Bruckheimer Tackles Animated Musical 'Epic' Saga

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is partnering with Jorge Rivera-Herrans, the creator of the viral musical sensation 'Epic,' to produce an animated adaptation. This ambitious project, based on a classic epic saga, is currently in its early stages and will be presented to studios and streamers. Bruckheimer, known for film franchises like 'Top Gun' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean,' is making his debut in animation with this musical endeavor.

The 'Epic' saga first gained widespread attention as a college senior thesis at the University of Notre Dame. During the pandemic, Rivera-Herrans shared his creative process on TikTok in 2021, subsequently releasing the musical sagas in 2022. These self-released EPs achieved significant success, topping iTunes and soundtrack charts, with 'Epic' once occupying nine of the top ten spots.

This modern, immersive re-envisioning of a classic tale of a war hero's arduous journey home resonated deeply with millennials and Gen Z. Influences from musicals, anime, and video games contributed to its appeal, even allowing fans to participate in the global casting. With over four billion global streams and seven billion short-form views, 'Epic' has redefined the intersection of music, storytelling, and audience engagement.

Rivera-Herrans initially declined numerous record label offers but ultimately signed with Atlantic Music Group, where Kevin Weaver, who spent two years courting him, now leads the project. Weaver's extensive career includes producing soundtracks for 'Barbie The Album' and 'The Greatest Showman.' Bruckheimer's involvement was further facilitated by Weaver's prior collaboration with the producer on 'F1 The Album.'
