In a recent interview, acclaimed actress Jennifer Lawrence is opening up about the challenging postpartum journey she has faced after the birth of her second child. The 35-year-old, who welcomed a baby boy earlier this year and also has a 3-year-old son, shared that she did not experience significant postpartum anxiety until after her second pregnancy.
Lawrence explained that her postpartum struggles provided her with a more nuanced perspective while filming her latest movie, in which she portrays a new mother grappling with the demands of motherhood. "I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby]," the Oscar winner revealed, adding that this personal experience "just added another layer" to her performance.
The actress further elaborated on the emotional turmoil she faced, recalling moments where she thought her newborn son was dead while sleeping and doubted her abilities as a mother. "I just thought every time he was sleeping he was dead," Lawrence told The New Yorker. "I thought he cried because he didn't like his life, or me, or his family. I thought I was doing everything wrong, and that I would ruin my children."

Fortunately, Lawrence sought help and began taking a recently developed medication, Zurzuvae, to treat her postpartum depression. She credits the drug for quickly and significantly improving her symptoms, allowing her to better navigate the challenges of new motherhood.
