Jennifer Lawrence Praises Female Directors for Their Collaborative Approach

In a recent interview, acclaimed actress Jennifer Lawrence has highlighted the contrasting directing styles she has observed when working with men versus women in the film industry. According to Lawrence, female directors tend to take a more collaborative approach, allowing actors more creative freedom on set.

Lawrence provided an example of her recent experience working with director Lynne Ramsay on the film Die My Love. She explained that Ramsay "really built this world and made sure that we were all on the same page" through open communication and setting the right atmosphere, before "slowly walk[ing] back" and letting the actors explore. This approach, Lawrence said, often led to "interesting" and unexpected results.

In contrast, Lawrence noted that some male directors she has worked with have exhibited a "need to constantly feel like they're directing the movie," which she found "annoying" and not particularly productive.

Beyond her observations on directing styles, Lawrence also discussed the personal challenges she has faced in recent years as a working mother. The actress, who is pregnant with her second child, shared that she suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. She described feeling like a "tiger was chasing [her] every day" due to "nonstop intrusive thoughts."

Despite these difficulties, Lawrence remains committed to balancing her thriving career with the demands of motherhood, acknowledging that "having kids is sacrificial" but also "gratifying and amazing and rewarding."
