Jean Smart, recently celebrated for her fifth Emmy win on 'Hacks,' has been cast in Searchlight's sequel to the 2005 holiday favorite, 'The Family Stone.' The project is slated to begin filming in New York during the fall.
The sequel will unfold two decades after the death of the family's beloved matriarch, Sybil Stone, as the Stones gather for Christmas once more. The family faces an unexpected development when their father introduces a new woman he has fallen in love with.
Several original cast members are reprising their roles, including Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Craig T. Nelson. Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, and Luke Wilson are also returning.
Tom Bezucha is back to direct from his own screenplay, with original producer Michael London returning to produce. This sequel's development is poignant, following the real-life passing of Diane Keaton last October at age 79.
