"Don't Tell on Me" was released on February 26, following its predecessor "How Far Does a Goodbye Go" reaching number one on the Country Airplay chart. Aldean expressed his intention to create a single that was aggressive and attention-grabbing. The song's production incorporated elements like a Leslie amp for a haunting guitar effect, mirroring '90s rock aesthetics. Aldean plans to debut the song live on April 10 in New Orleans.
