The 24th Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), held alongside the 30th Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FilMart), introduces a dedicated Japanese section called "Film Frontier." This new initiative aims to provide emerging Japanese filmmakers with greater visibility and opportunities for international co-production.
Japan is represented by seven projects across HAF's In-Development Projects, Works-in-Progress, and the new Film Frontier sections. This significant presence, facilitated by Unijapan, highlights a strategic effort to support young talent in developing their creative skills and establishing global networks.
Beyond HAF, Japan's film industry is gaining international momentum, with an upcoming Country of Honor designation at the Cannes Film Market in 2026. The domestic market also saw record box office revenue of JPY274.45 billion ($1.79 billion) in 2025, further enhancing Japan's appeal as a co-production partner.
