20 Oct
Summary
- Live album recorded in 2017 at Toronto's Massey Hall.
- Shows Japandroids as reliable but missing their wild energy.
- The album captures a more professional, less raw band.
The live album, recorded in 2017 at Toronto's Massey Hall, documents Japandroids in a phase of reliable professionalism.
This recording captures the duo sounding polished and experienced, though the raw, utopian energy that defined their earlier albums and most electrifying performances is notably absent.
Songs like 'Younger Us' and 'Fire's Highway' demonstrate a more tempered approach, with vocals reflecting a maturer perspective and instrumental performances playing it safer.
Despite the subdued live presentation, the album serves as a testament to Japandroids' enduring vision of aspirational masculinity and romantic fulfillment, highlighting their ability to inspire listeners through ordinary people striving for extraordinary connections.
