During a recent visit to India from July 1 to July 3, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi participated in a notable cultural exchange. She was observed trying her hand at the Santoor, a traditional Indian string instrument. Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a video of this interaction, capturing Takaichi as she gently played the instrument with mallets.
This cultural moment followed the 16th India-Japan annual summit and an economic forum. Takaichi, who has previously revealed a passion for heavy metal music and drumming in a high-school band, embraced the opportunity to engage with Indian culture. She also joined PM Modi virtually for the inauguration of a new Maruti Suzuki facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana.
Prime Minister Modi affectionately referred to Takaichi as his 'choti behan' (younger sister), a sentiment she echoed, emphasizing the strong relationship between the two countries. Takaichi expressed her gratitude for India's hospitality and optimism for deepening bilateral ties, especially in light of the upcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
