Broadway Star James Corden Criticizes American Obsession with Halloween Dress-Up

In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, English comedian and TV host James Corden, 47, expressed his controversial views on adults dressing up for Halloween. Corden told host Jimmy Fallon that while he believes Halloween is "great for kids," he takes issue with the way adults in America, more so than in Britain, have become "really into" the holiday.

Corden explained that when adults ask him what costume he plans to wear, he simply responds, "Well, nothing..." This, he says, leads people to think he's "awful" for not participating. However, Corden argued that even when adults do dress up, the costumes often become irrelevant once the party starts, with people engaging in normal conversations while still wearing outfits like an "axe in his head, blood dripping down his face."

The actor, who is currently starring on Broadway in the play "ART" at the Music Box Theater, emphasized that he sees no need for adults to be "wearing these outfits" for Halloween. Corden, who last appeared on stage in 2012's "One Man, Two Guvnors," recently spoke to PEOPLE about his return to the theater, expressing his passion for the medium.
