Buckley's Post-Inbetweeners Career Quest
5 Mar
Summary
- James Buckley sought new career direction after The Inbetweeners.
- He achieved top earnings on Cameo platform.
- Buckley believes Inbetweeners-style comedy is needed today.

James Buckley, who portrayed Jay Cartwright in The Inbetweeners, revealed that he experienced difficulty finding a new career purpose after the series ended. He confessed to feeling "semi-retired" following the show's final film in 2014, admitting he is "still trying to find" a new goal.
Despite acting in a few projects, Buckley has found significant success on the video message site Cameo, becoming its highest earner. He also maintains a podcast and YouTube channel with his wife, Clair. He expressed that the fame from The Inbetweeners made him uncomfortable, viewing the show's comedic achievements as unnecessary.
Buckley noted that while there are discussions about reviving The Inbetweeners, he has not been approached for a new project. However, he feels the show's distinctive, unapologetic humor is precisely what is needed today. He suggested that such comedy could serve to "release some sort of pressure" and that audiences are ready to embrace laughter again, moving past a phase of taking things too seriously.
The creators of The Inbetweeners, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, confirmed in October 2024 that they are developing new material for the iconic characters. This new venture, following a deal with Banijay UK, could take the form of a TV series, film, or stage adaptation. The cast members, including Joe Thomas and Emily Atack, have reportedly expressed eagerness to reunite for a potential reboot.
