James Bourne, 42, has broken his silence nine months after withdrawing from Busted's tour due to illness. He underwent major surgery in April 2026, described as an effort "to extend his life," but expressed optimism, stating, "there is hope."
Bourne utilized the unexpected time off from touring to focus on his new album, 'Murder At The Gates.' He developed this project for a new musical with American playwright Steven Sater. He emphasized his drive to complete the album, stating, "I didn't want my health to stop me from promoting this project."
His bandmate Matt Willis recounted the difficult decision to tour without James, admitting they considered cancellation. "We've never done a show without James, and it was really hard," Willis shared. Ultimately, James's brother Chris stepped in to perform with Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson for the remainder of the tour. The album 'Murder At The Gates,' featuring Gaten Matarazzo, is set for release on July 1, 2026.
