Jake Gyllenhaal has opened up about his professional collaboration with his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, on the upcoming film 'The Bride!', jesting that she has "been directing me since we were kids." The film, hitting cinemas this Friday, sees Maggie serving as writer and director for a reimagining of the Bride of Frankenstein story.
Jake described reading Maggie's script as a singular experience, noting "it was truly one of a kind. A singular vision from a brilliant mind." He was stunned by the world she created on the page. The actor expressed that working with Maggie in a professional capacity felt "totally and absolutely natural and deeply meaningful," calling it "an absolute joy."
'The Bride!' offers a contemporary twist on the classic Frankenstein myth, set in 1930s Chicago. The story follows "Frank" (Christian Bale) who enlists scientist Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening) to create a companion, resulting in the resurrection of The Bride (Jessie Buckley). Jake Gyllenhaal portrays Hollywood idol Ronnie Reed in the ensemble cast, which also features Peter Sarsgaard and Penelope Cruz. This marks the siblings' first professional on-screen reunion.
