Summary
- First Feature Competition returns next year with global filmmakers.
- International jury selection was previously a challenge.
- Short film winners receive full funding for their debut features.

The Jakarta World Cinema festival is preparing to reintroduce its First Feature Competition in the upcoming year, opening its doors to filmmakers globally. This exciting development follows a pause in the competition, which was previously hindered by the challenge of forming an international jury. Festival organizers are now focused on curating a distinguished panel of international judges with impressive filmographies.
The festival, strategically positioned between other significant film events, prides itself on presenting a curated selection of critically acclaimed films. It aims to bring approximately 80-90% of award-winning titles from renowned festivals like Cannes, Berlin, Venice, and Sundance to local audiences. This commitment is driven by acquisitions made at major film markets, ensuring exposure to the year's most impactful art films.
This year's edition boasts a record 102 theatrical titles, with plans to expand the program and increase audience capacity in the future. Alongside the feature film competition, the festival successfully concluded its short film competition in June, attracting over 300 entries. The shortlisted short films will be screened during the festival, with the best short film and audience choice awards to be announced on the closing day. The best short film winner will receive full funding from KlikFilm for their debut feature production and distribution.
