Jagjit Singh's Song Echoes Personal Grief

The song 'Chitthi Na Koi Sandesh,' sung by Jagjit Singh for the 1998 film Dushman, continues to evoke deep emotion. While often mistakenly believed to be composed for Jagjit's son, Vivek, who tragically passed away in a road accident in 1990 at the age of 20, the song was penned by Anand Bakshi for the film's storyline. The music was composed by Uttam Singh, with Lata Mangeshkar also recording a female version.

Jagjit Singh recorded his version eight years after his son's death. Although there is no concrete evidence that Bakshi wrote the lyrics specifically for Vivek, or that Jagjit presented it as a direct dedication, the public's perception was shaped by the ghazal maestro's own profound experience of loss.
