Actor Jackie Shroff recently honored the death anniversary of legendary musician Deenanath Mangeshkar on April 24th. Mangeshkar was celebrated as a stalwart in theatre and classical music, particularly in Marathi plays. Born in 1900 in Goa, he was also a theatre actor and passed away in 1942 due to illness exacerbated by financial pressures.
Deenanath Mangeshkar and his wife Shevanti had five children who all became prominent artists. These included Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, Meena Mangeshkar, and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Following Deenanath's early death, Lata Mangeshkar took on the family's responsibility at a young age.
Lata Mangeshkar, who began her career at 13, became known as the 'Nightingale of India' after singing thousands of songs. Her sister, Asha Bhosle, also achieved fame as a versatile singer. Both sisters passed away recently, with Asha Bhosle dying on April 12, 2026, at 92, and Lata Mangeshkar in February 2022, also at 92. The other Mangeshkar siblings have also made significant contributions to music.
