Isabella Rossellini is set to star in "Vermillion," a new period drama directed by Jon Amiel. The film's narrative unfolds during the tumultuous final days leading up to the French Revolution.
Inspired by Joel Gross's 2007 play "Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh," "Vermillion" centers on Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, a portrait painter who navigates the royal court of Versailles. Rossellini will portray Madame de Noailles, a devoted aristocrat, while Millicent Simmonds will play Berthe, a young servant.
The production is being lead-produced by Katharina Magdalena and Barrie M. Osborne, with European co-production partners including Odeon Fiction, Zephyr Films, and JewelLabs Pictures. Filming is anticipated to commence in the first quarter of 2027, with locations planned for Austria, Germany, and France, pending final casting.
Director Jon Amiel expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its exploration of identity, class, and the power of love amidst significant social change.
