Newly discovered writings by novelist Dame Iris Murdoch are set to be a highlight of an upcoming free humanities festival. The Iris Murdoch Society recently unearthed previously unpublished poems from the attic of her former home.
These poems, including a love poem and a piece about her husband, historian Michael Foot, will be read at the Think Human festival. This event, hosted by Oxford Brookes University from April 15-18, is designed to bridge the gap between academics and the local community.
Festival committee member Gary Browning will also lead a discussion on "Oxford Quartet: Women Philosophers Against the Tide," focusing on influential female philosophers. Additionally, Browning will discuss two of Murdoch's novels, one of which may never be published.
The festival program also includes events on motherhood, political legacies, and grassroots football, promising a diverse range of discussions for all attendees.
