Indie Gems Compete for Attention Ahead of 2026 Debuts

As of November 16, 2025, a distributor is looking to draw attention to a weekend showcase of four independent films from acclaimed directors. The "Fourplex" promotion touts "4 FILMS. 4 DIRECTORS. 1 THEATER. 1 WEEKEND" as a way to cut through the crowded market and highlight the latter two films ahead of their official 2026 debuts.

Joachim Trier's Cannes Grand Prix-winning Sentimental Value is expected to gross $380,000 on 28 screens this weekend, with plans to expand to around 500 screens by the end of the year. Sirāt by Oliver Lax and the animated Arco, directed by Ugo Bienvenu and produced by Natalie Portman, both had well-received premieres at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Elsewhere, Keeper by Osgood Perkin (Longlegs, The Monkey) is debuting at #7 at the box office with a $2.5 million opening weekend from 1,950 theaters. The distributor also has Jafar Panahi's Cannes Palm d'Or Winner It Was Just An Accident on 110 screens in its fifth week, having grossed $1.1 million so far.

Other notable releases include the second-weekend success of Nuremberg, starring Russell Crowe and Rami Malek, which has grossed an estimated $8.66 million, and the continued strong performance of Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, which has earned $15.7 million in its fourth week.
