The indie gaming world is abuzz with excitement as the nominees for the second annual Indie Game Awards were announced this week. Among the contenders for Game of the Year are a diverse array of titles, from the big-hitter Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to the intriguing Consume Me and Roger.
In the coming weeks and months, gamers can look forward to the release of several highly anticipated indie titles. One such game is Windswept, a precision platformer inspired by '90s classics like Donkey Kong Country. Developed by WeatherFell and published by Top Hat Studios, Windswept follows the journey of Marbles the duck and Checkers the turtle as they try to find their way home after a storm. With over 40 levels to explore, animal buddies to ride, and a host of secrets to uncover, Windswept promises to be a delightful experience for platformer enthusiasts.
Another title generating buzz is Possessor(s), a horror-infused Metroidvania from Heart Machine, the studio behind Hyper Light Drifter. In this game, high school student Luca forms an alliance with a demon to survive an interdimensional catastrophe. Reviewers have had a mixed response to Possessor(s), which is now available on PS5 and PC.
Gamers looking for a more unique experience can look forward to Goodnight Universe, a game that casts players in the role of a six-month-old baby with psychic powers. Developed by Nice Dream and published by Skybound Games, Goodnight Universe is best played with a camera, allowing players to interact using eye movement and facial expressions.
The indie gaming landscape is also welcoming new cafe simulation titles, such as Tailside, which is set to launch on Steam on January 21, 2023. In this game, players can perfect the art of coffee making and customize their furry-themed cafe to their liking. Additionally, Coffee Talk Tokyo, the latest entry in the Coffee Talk series, is scheduled to arrive on March 5, 2023, across multiple platforms.
