Indian Shows Surge: Viewer Interest Up 17x

Viewer interest in Indian series on IMDb has seen a remarkable escalation, increasing approximately 17-fold over the past ten years. This surge in viewership occurred even as the number of newly commissioned Indian shows and seasons has decreased for two consecutive years, suggesting a more selective market as the industry consolidates.

Prime Video and Amazon MX Player led among streaming services, collectively securing 34 positions for Indian series. Netflix followed with 21 positions, representing the broadest range of distinct titles. YouTube has proven to be a significant launchpad, with 13 charting series originating on the platform, many of which were later acquired by subscription services, demonstrating its role in nurturing creators and broader audiences.

The report identified "Mirzapur" as the most frequently appearing show, with nine appearances since its debut. "Scam 1992" also made a notable impact, charting five times from a single season. Crime and thriller genres dominated the top-ranked shows, while recent years have seen a rise in horror, romance, comedy, and drama categories.

Key industry figures like Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal were highlighted as "MVPs of Streaming" for their consistent presence in hit series and franchises. The production landscape shows a cautious trend, with commissions dropping from 202 in 2023 to 145 in 2025, with Hindi-language shows comprising 66% of Indian streaming originals in 2025.
