Indian Music Streams Explode on Spotify Globally

Globally, Indian artists garnered nearly 335 billion streams, translating to over 20 billion hours of listening. International listeners discovered new Indian artists 12.8 billion times, indicating a 14% rise in global exploration.
Financial returns also expanded, with a 21% increase in Indian artists earning over Rs 1 crore annually on Spotify. The number of artists crossing Rs 5 crore more than doubled since 2023.
Haryanvi music exemplifies this expansion, with streams growing nearly sevenfold between February 2023 and February 2026. Concurrently, Spotify extended its Radar program to Malayalam, building on its success with Punjabi and Tamil.
Remarkably, more than 40% of earnings for Indian artists on Spotify in the past year came from listeners outside India. Top exported tracks included independent releases, showcasing a broader talent pool.
Domestically, 90% of tracks on Spotify India's Daily Top 50 featured Indian artists, with many popular songs originating from outside traditional film soundtracks. This trend underscores the increasing global and independent reach of Indian music.
