Indian dancers dazzle at Commonwealth Games opening

The opening ceremony of the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow featured a vibrant performance by six Indian dancers. The Glasgow-based troupe, 'The Ghungroo Revolution,' presented a captivating blend of Kathak and Bharatanatyam, drawing enthusiastic applause from the crowd during the 'Parade of Nations.'

This performance was the culmination of a rigorous audition process, which troupe founder Kamalika Ghosh described as challenging. Explaining the distinct classical dance forms to organizers was part of their journey. All six members, who hold full-time jobs, dedicated significant hours to rehearsals to perfect their routines.

Triparna Mukherjee, a Kathak specialist and mother, highlighted the difficulty of balancing work, family, and passion. Despite the demanding schedule, the dancers were impressed by the professionalism of the Games organizers, leading to a memorable debut on the international stage.
