8 Jan
Summary
- IMPPA urges PM Modi to intervene against film ban in six Gulf countries.
- The ban on 'Dhurandhar' is described as a suppression of freedom of expression.
- Industry fears significant box office revenue loss in the Middle East.

The Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) has formally requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to address the reported ban on the Ranveer Singh-starrer film 'Dhurandhar' in several Middle Eastern nations. The association has characterized these restrictions as "unilateral and uncalled for," emphasizing the film's prior certification by India's Central Board of Film Certification and its domestic box office success.
In a letter signed by IMPPA President Abhay Sinha, the organization urged the government to engage with authorities in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. The appeal highlights concerns over the potential suppression of freedom of expression and seeks diplomatic efforts to revoke the ban. Copies of this appeal were also sent to Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and S. Jaishankar.
