Guided by a demanding director, Noor channels her grief into the role while encountering the ghost of her deceased partner. The film delves into themes of power dynamics, navigating corrupt societies, campus culture wars, and the profound impact of climate grief.
Zarrar Kahn, whose directorial debut 'In Flames' premiered at Cannes in 2023, is writing and directing 'Suffering Is Optional.' Kahn developed the script using personal accounts from climate disaster survivors. Production is scheduled to commence in early 2027, with principal photography taking place in Hamilton and Montreal, Canada. The project is financed by Telefilm Canada and is a collaborative production between multiple Canadian companies.
