The state government of Kerala is exploring the possibility of establishing permanent venues for the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) within the city of Trivandrum. Minister P C Vishnunadh announced that if Tagore Theatre, currently managed by the public relations department, is transferred to the culture department, it could be transformed into a seven-screen complex.
This proposed seven-screen facility, along with nearby theatres such as Kalabhavan and Kairali-Sree, could serve as the festival's consistent home. The minister highlighted that concentrating venues within the city would offer greater convenience for delegates and viewers, enabling easier access to accommodation and rest between film screenings.
Furthermore, the government intends to integrate the operations of various cultural organizations, including the folklore academy, Sahitya Akademi, and Chalachitra Academy. The goal is to evolve their individual events into a comprehensive annual cultural festival hosted in different districts, while preserving the distinct focus of each event.
Plans are also underway to enhance the IFFK experience by adding another screen and increasing the number of film screenings. This expansion aims to provide more opportunities for attendees to watch films, especially during late-night shows. The International Film Festival of Kerala in 2026 is scheduled to be held from December 11 to December 18.
