IFFI Showcases Films Honoring Gandhi's Vision of Peace

The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has announced the 10 films competing for the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal, an international honor that celebrates cinema promoting peace and intercultural dialogue. This prestigious award, instituted at IFFI's 46th edition, is presented in collaboration with the International Council for Film and Television (ICFT) Paris under the aegis of UNESCO.
Leading the lineup is Iraqi filmmaker Hasan Hadi's directorial debut "The President's Cake," which won both the Audience Award and Caméra d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight section. Also competing is Chilean auteur Sebastián Lelio's musical drama "The Wave," which premiered at Cannes and is loosely inspired by the 2018 Chilean feminist protests.
Other contenders include Nadia Falls' "Brides," a British-Muslim coming-of-age drama that premiered at Sundance, and Norwegian filmmaker Eirik Svensson's "Safe House," which won the Audience Dragon Award at the Göteborg Film Festival. The selection also features several world premieres, including Kosovian filmmaker Ujkan Hysaj's "Hana" and Iranian actor Ebrahim Amini's directorial debut "K Poper."

The jury for the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal will be chaired by Ahmed Bedjaoui, the artistic director of the International Film Festival of Algiers, alongside other esteemed members from the international film community.
