The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) observed a somber note on Monday, canceling all scheduled entertainment programs to mourn the passing of legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra. The veteran actor died at the age of 89. Events including traditional Goan folk dances and on-stage performances were among those halted for the day as a mark of respect.
While non-delegates' musical shows and events in the Inox courtyard were paused, film screenings across all venues proceeded as planned. The WAVES Film Bazaar's closing ceremony also included a moment of silence, attended by prominent filmmakers. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed deep sadness, extending condolences to Dharmendra's family and admirers.
A special event is slated for Tuesday at 1 pm at the Kala Academy, featuring filmmaker Rahul Rawail, to celebrate Dharmendra's enduring legacy. Organizers are also considering a tribute during IFFI's closing ceremony on November 28, though details remain undisclosed.
