12 Nov
Summary
- Idris Elba returning as Detective John Luther in new Luther film
- Ruth Wilson reprising her role as Alice Morgan, Luther's co-dependent foe
- Dermot Crowley also set to appear in the upcoming thriller

In 2025, the Luther franchise is set to expand with a new film featuring the return of Idris Elba as the lead character, Detective John Luther. Elba, who headlined the popular TV series in the 2010s, will once again don the role that dominated screens for over five seasons.
The news comes after the release of the 2023 standalone movie, Luther: The Fallen Sun, which saw the series transition from a web series to the big screen. Now, the story is being further developed, with the announcement that Ruth Wilson will reprise her role as Alice Morgan, Luther's psychopathic foe-turned-co-dependent.
Joining Elba and Wilson in the new thriller is Dermot Crowley, who has been a part of the Luther family since the series' inception. The film will be directed by Jamie Payne, a veteran of the show who has helmed previous episodes as well as the Fallen Sun movie.
"Neil has yet again created a wonderfully dark tale to bring us all back together," said Payne, referring to the series' creator, Neil Cross. "It's a true joy to be back on the streets of Lutherland with the supreme talents that are Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley. I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan, played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson."
